Restart your Networking equipment

If you are finding that your performance issues only seem to come up when playing an online game, the next essential step is to power cycle your modem and router. If your modem and router have physical power buttons or toggles, switch them off for at least one minute. If your devices don't have a power switch, unplug them from the power source instead.

Regardless of the method, start by turning your modem back on. Wait until all the lights are on as usual, and then proceed to turn your router back on.

Once both are fully turned on, reconnect your Switch to the Wi-Fi again. If there was a temporary problem with your network equipment, this should clear it up.

Check for Slow Internet speeds

To troubleshoot online lagging issues on your Nintendo Switch, it is essential to determine the download and upload speeds of your internet connection by conducting a speed test. Please keep in mind that the recommended speed requirements for the Nintendo Switch are a minimum of 3 Mbps download and 1 Mbps upload. Here are the steps to perform a speed test on your console:

  2. Scroll down and select Internet
  3. On the right pane, select Test Connection to initiate the speed test
  4. Once the test is complete, you will see a "Connection test successful" message, and the speed results will be displayed at the bottom of the screen
