If you are a Nintendo Switch player, receiving a Connection Error while booting up or trying to play Headbangers, we've put together some solutions that may help you resolve this issue!

Important: Headbangers requires an active subscription to Nintendo Switch Online due to the nature of it being an online multiplayer game so please make sure you have an active subscription before attempting to play.

Synchronise your Date & Time

First and foremost, please try synchronising the date and time for your console:

  1. From the HOME Menu on your Switch select System Settings
  2. Scroll down the options on the left and select System
  3. On the right-hand side of the screen, select Date and Time

If prompted, enter your Parental Controls PIN.

Then please set the time and date using your preferred method. The time and date can be set in two ways:

  • Synchronise Clock via Internet: Press A to synchronise the console with the date and time on the Internet, then make sure to select your correct Time Zone. This feature cannot be turned off while the Nintendo Switch Parental Controls app is linked to the console.
  • Manually: Select the correct time zone, date and time. Then press OK.

Then attempt to launch the game.

Check your Connection

If synchronising your date and time has not resolved the issue, we'd highly recommend checking your Nintendo Switch's network connectivity and making sure that everything is set up correctly to achieve the best connection for online multiplayer games.

We have a whole article about troubleshooting connection steps that will help to determine if it is your connection causing this error to appear or not.

Change your DNS Settings

If you find that your connection is not what is causing the issue, we would suggest manually changing your DNS server.  The abbreviation DNS stands for "Domain Name System." It is a vital network component responsible for converting the application you wish to access into the corresponding IP address. This translation is crucial to establish the correct connection on the Internet.

  1. Press the home button and select System Settings
  2. Scroll down and select Internet > Internet Settings
  3. Select your Internet connection and then select Change Settings
  4. Select DNS Settings > Manual
  5. Set Primary DNS and Secondary DNS to:

    •   8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4

  6. Then select Save > OK, exit the settings and retest the game

You could also try using:

  • Cloudflare's DNS:  1.1.1.1 and 1.0.0.1

Check if you are using an Ad Blocker

If you are using any sort of AdBlocker on your Network, this could be compromising your connection and causing this error message to appear even though it is not directly installed on your Switch. We would advise disabling or uninstalling any AdBlockers you have on your network before retesting the game.

Check and Repair any Corrupted Data

To check if there is any corrupted data in the game that could be causing this issue, please:

  1. From the HOME Menu, select System Settings
  2. Scroll down the options on the left and select Data Management
  3. On the right-hand side select Software
  4. Then select the software title you would like to check
  5. Select Check for Corrupt Data

If corrupt data was found you will need to select the Redownload option and follow the instructions that appear.

Clear your Nintendo Switch Cache

If you find the issue continues, we would recommend clearing your cache - you can find steps on how to do this here:

Reinstall the problematic software

Sometimes crashes can be resolved by simply uninstalling and reinstalling the software that is crashing.

From the HOME menu:

  1. Select System Settings
  2. Scroll down the options on the left and select Data Management
  3. On the right-hand side select Software, then select the software you would like to manage or delete
  4. Select Delete Software

You can then either reinsert your game card and reinstall the game, or redownload the game from the eShop.

If you find you are still having issues with this network error after attempting all the steps above, please do feel free to reach out to us here at Customer Support and we'd be more than happy to help troubleshoot further!
