What is MSInfo?

MSInfo is a tool created by Windows which gathers information about your PC and gives us a comprehensive insight into your hardware, system specs and software environments. We can then use the information this file provides to attempt to troubleshoot any hardware issues you may be having.

How do I create an MSInfo file?

  1. Open a Run command box by pressing the Windows key and R key at the same time - you can also do this by searching 'Run' in your start menu search bar
  2. In the Run window's dialogue box, type msinfo32 and click OK

  3. When the System Information Window opens, give it a moment to pull information from your system. You'll know this has been completed when you click through the menus on the left-hand side and see information in each of them
  4. Click File, then Export... - do not choose File, then Save as, as this will create a very large file that you may not want on your system

  5. Name your file something simple like 'mymsinfo' and make sure it is saved as a text (.txt) file

  6. Save the exported file somewhere you can easily find it like your Desktop or in your My Documents folder - it can take a minute or two for the file to export and save
