Simple Solutions:

  • Make sure that you have checked the system requirements for the game you are attempting to play and made sure that your system meets at least the minimum required specifications.
  • Make sure to double-check your Steam client for for any pending updates - you can do this by clicking Steam in the top-left corner of your client window and selecting 'Check for Steam client updates...'
  • Sometimes programs like Razer Synapse, MSI Afterburner, Nahimic, Citrix and Armoury Crate can interfere with your game program, so removing these can often times help resolve any crash issues.
  • Please also make sure that your Anti-virus/Firewall/Windows Defender is not blocking the game in any way.

Check Windows for Updates

This may seem like a simple solution, but it's also very important. Having your Windows up-to-date  provide fixes to possible bugs and security holes as well as cleaning up any outdated software that may be slowing down your system.

To update your Windows OS, please:

  1. Select the Start Button
  2. Go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update
  3. Select Check for updates and install every possible package
  4. Click the link Download and Install to update your system to the latest version
  5. Reboot your computer

Make sure your Graphics Drivers are up to date

Driver updates fix security and compatibility problems, errors, and broken code. Sometimes, depending on the manufacturer, they even add features to the hardware.

To find steps on how to update your graphics drivers, please see the following articles:

Make sure your game is running through the correct Graphics Driver

Some PC's have multiple graphics cards installed. Sometimes, when having two or more graphics cards on your system, you could be attempting to run your game through the wrong one. If the graphics card you are running doesn't meet the minimum requirements for your game, it could be causing crashes - i.e. you may have an onboard Intel graphics card and a dedicated NVIDIA card, the Intel may not be powerful enough to run the game according to the game specifications, whereas the NVIDIA may be, setting the NVIDIA card as your default will likely correct this issue.

For steps on how to set the correct graphics card to default, please see the following articles:

Verify your game files

To check your game installation and make sure that there are no corrupted or missing files causing the problem:

  1. Open your Game Library on Steam
  2. Right-click on your game
  3. Select Properties from the menu
  4. In the Properties menu, select Local Files
  5. On the Local Files page, select Verify integrity of game files...

Then please retest the game.

Perform a Clean Boot of your PC

A "clean boot" starts your Windows with a minimal set of drivers and startup programs - this way you can determine whether a background program could be interfering with your game.

For steps on how to perform a clean boot, please see :

Perform an SFC scan

  2. Type cmd
  3. Right-click on Command Prompt > Run as administrator

  5. Press Enter
  6. If the process has revealed/resolved any issues, please attempt to run the game again
  7. Respond with the results
